Scott Spoolman, author of "Wisconsin State Parks: Extraordinary Stories of Geology and Natural History," is a science writer who has focused on the environmental sciences, especially those stories of natural science and the environment related to Wisconsin and surrounding states. After earning a master's degree from the University of Minnesota School of Journalism, he worked for several years as an editor in the publishing industry, specializing in textbooks and other educational materials. Since 1996, he has worked as a freelance writer and editor for a variety of outlets and has co-authored several editions of a series of environmental science textbooks.

All who register and attend this event will receive a special 100th anniversary gift!During his presentation, Scott takes us with him to 28 parks, forests, and natural areas where evidence of the Wisconsin's striking geologic and natural history are on display. In an accessible storytelling style, he will shed light on the volcanoes that poured deep layers of lava rock over a vast area in the northwest, the glacial masses that flattened and molded the landscape of northern and eastern Wisconsin, mountain ranges that rose up and wore away over hundreds of millions of years, and many other bedrock-shaping phenomena.

These stories connect geologic processes to the current landscape, as well as to the evolution of flora and fauna and development of human settlement and activities, for a deeper understanding of our state's natural history.

Drinks, hors d'oeuvres and dinner will be served. See the "Event Details" link below for additional information.

Online registration ends Friday, December 6.
